CURRENT POSITION

I am currently researching the reception of classical myths, ideas, imagery, events and statesmen in 18th-20th centuries political cartoons published in British and American newspapers. I am hoping to study one century of political cartoons each year over the next three to four years.

 

PAST POSITIONS


2007-2009    Researcher at the Institute of Archaeology, Oxford. Main project: ‘Democracy and visual humour: art and                                 freedom of expression from ancient Athens to modern day Denmark’, which is a subset of my longer-term                                 research on ‘the archaeology of humour’. I also conducted a lecture series in London on ‘Ancient and                                     Modern Democracies’.
2007-2009    Private BA tutor for an undergraduate student from the University of Newcastle in ancient History and classical                         archaeology. He obtained his degree successfully in June 2009.

2006-2007        Travel Consultant in European archaeology, Equinox Travel Ltd, 38a Museum St., London.

2005-2006         Part-time Lecturer, University of Reading, Dept. of Classics. BA Modules: Latin language, Greek and Roman Painting, Ancient History (Fifth century Athens), Classical Mythology based on the Greek and Latin literature and visual evidence.

2004-2005         Part-time Lecturer, University of Reading, Dept. of Classics. BA Module: Greek & Roman Sculpture; MA Module: Greek Vases; Perception and Interpretation of Gestures in Antiquity.

2002- 2004        Full-time Researcher, Beazley Archive, Ashmolean Museum. Projects: 1) Digital version of the French fascicules of the Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum; translation of technical terms  2) ThesCRA project on the iconography of dedications for the LIMC in Basel.
